The recent surge in followers and practitioners of Marie Kondo’s KonMari method indicates that there’s a burning need for women to find contentment and happiness in their lives by decluttering with intention and purpose.
The KonMari method involves chucking out things that don’t bring us happiness to make room for things that do. If you haven’t read her book, I recommend you do. You’ll soon understand why her Japanese art of decluttering has been translated into 40 languages and been a New York Times bestseller for almost two years!
In order to let goodness and grace into our lives we have to make room for it. So I can think of no better time to implement decluttering techniques than in the months leading up to Ramadan – an important time for renewed spiritual fullness, wellness, and cleansing.
Decluttering our lives
Usually Muslims will do this in the blessed month of Fasting. Ramadan is a month of spiritual renewal, so it makes perfect sense to prepare ourselves ahead of time for the coming spiritual boost – if we have room to let it in!
This means that it’s important to prep before Ramadan starts by eliminating unnecessary things that are burdening our mind and lives. These burdening things can include unhelpful groups we’re in, overwhelming to-do lists, negative people, and a bunch of other “daily clutter” that is best cleared out before Ramadan begins.
Decluttering our business
For entrepreneurs especially, decluttering our lives must also extend into our business operations as well.
As business owners, when we delutter our daily tasks, we can discover renewed focus in our work. For passionate Muslimah entrepreneurs, this can help us not only refine our brand, but concentrate our efforts on making the biggest impact and helping the most people in the shortest amount of time – leaving a lasting legacy in the world around us.
To achieve our true purpose and hone our focus, we must first narrow in and determine the working pieces that are most important to our business – then let go of the rest.
Don’t get me wrong, of course this doesn’t mean neglecting crucial projects that we don’t find fun – like emailing distributors, invoicing clients, or doing our taxes. I merely suggest that we need to look for ways to streamline processes and learn to let go of the small “cluttering” aspects of our business.
Decluttering may necessitate hiring a virtual assistant that’s good at looking out for the details so we don’t have to. It can also mean outsourcing other important yet tedious tasks to keep our own daily workflow more clutter-free and productive!
Why clutter hurts
You may have already suspected this is the case, but recent research also proves that women are generally more bothered by clutter than or male counter parts.
This explains why couples usually butt heads over the issue of clutter and cleanliness in the home. While it can help to set some ground rules before marriage, some couples may be mismatched in this regard which can lead to issues and ongoing arguments as time goes on.
But clutter doesn’t only affect our marriages and relationships.
It’s been proven clutter/mess has a negative affect on our mood and stress levels. A clean environment calms the mind of busy Entrepreneurs with constant ADD minds.
Anxious and stressed is certainly not a state that we want to live-in year round. It’s also not a great feeling to be stuck in as we’re heading into the most spiritually blessed months of the year.
Our cups first need to be empty of stress if we want to fill them up with renewed faith.
